Hi everyone. I am returning (sheepishly) to the PCT. I feel like the college kid who couldn’t pass Art History II and had to keep retaking it. Anyway, if you are interested in why I quit early, you can read my blog posts from 2021 and 2022. For my own mental health, I am focusing on the trail ahead.
California continues to surprise me. This year, despite the recent history of low precipitation, the state set records for snowfall. This should make water less of an issue in the desert. However, it may delay my entry into the Sierra Nevada. I will know more about that when I get there.
My start date is May 6th. I am at home making final preparations and trying to do what I can for Patti before I leave. My good friend, Kieth (Double Deluxe), is starting with me. Well and there is also that group of 50 people with permits to start on the May 6 as well. It will be a very different experience for me this year with all the people around. I think it will be fun. The desert in Southern California promises to be glorious.
I will be blogging again this year, as best I can. Night hiking is sometimes necessary in the desert to avoid the mid-day heat. I normally write at night, so some adjustments are in order. As per usual, blog posts may be delayed until I find the time to post them, and a place where I can connect to the internet.
If you tire of waiting, you can check out the reruns (posts from 2021 and 2022). Oh, and don’t be afraid to leave comments. I love hearing from you. Take care.
